interest rates go down to zero

interest rates go down to zero

If you’re one of the few lucky ones, you might not get asked to return your Obama tax credit.

Want to save some money and don’t want to pay interest anymore on your card? If the amount on your card is small enough to pay off in 12 months or less ($1000) you can turn that interest racking card into zero in no time at all.

Kenneth Cole? Get your own sale price

In 1 on April 27, 2009 at 10:18 am

kenneth-code-adTip from a reader who got sale prices on a non-sale day!

I was at Kenneth Cole with my significant other. We liked a shirt and asked if it was on sale. The sales person said it was not. We told him that we were sad and really liked the shirt. Was it was going to go on sale any time soon? He said it wasn’t likely but said, ‘You know what? I”ll give you 20% off anyways.’

We were surprised! He said it was the end of the day and it’s hot, so it’s yours!

Bam! Negotiated!

Don’t get ripped off on monthly parking

Not this garage!

Not this garage!

Toll prices and subways prices continue to go up in the city.   The average price of a nyc parking garage is $431 a month.  However, this doesn’t mean you can’t find a decent price for monthly parking spots. Garages are looking to compensate for their revenue losses by locking in customers at a fixed discounted monthly rate.

I myself was able to get a nice parking deal in a reliable garage for $200 a month (tax inclusive). Read the rest of this entry »

Trump Taj

Trump Taj

Move over Susan Boyle! Watching Shaheen JafarGholi made me want to take a trip to the UK and become an audience member for Britain’s Got Talent. However, we can’t really afford a full UK trip right now, so we settled for a weekend in Atlantic City. We booked our hotel drove down to AC a few weekends ago.

To our dismay, when we arrive at Trump Taj our rooms were still being cleaned. We had gotten a great discount at a water view and we were with our parents and the concierge told us that we would not be able to stay on the same floor. Read the rest of this entry »

Cheaper Rent in NYC

Rent in NYC

NYTimes reported a drop in home ownership. Not only that, but the rental prices are dropping, too.

In midtown alone they had dropped 10-15%. My husband and I had thought about moving to NJ or Queens to lower our living costs this year. But staying in Manhattan might not be such a bad idea. Especially, when every landlord is willing to negotiate not just first month rent free, but 2 months off the already reduced rates.

Cable Bill Woes

Just because AIG last almost 100 billion dollars last year, doesn’t mean your pockets need to suffer, too.

My February cable and internet statement arrived. I was in sticker shock. Our cable bill had jumped almost 50%. Last month, it was 82 and our new statement showed a whopping $120.

I panicked and immediately googled the cable company, found their support number and started dialing. Read the rest of this entry »

Welcome to Negotiation Girl

In money, save on April 21, 2009 at 12:32 am

Unless you’re an AIG exec or Ford CEO, you probably didn’t get a pay raise this year. If you’re one of the lucky ones, you probably got a memo asking employees to take that 10% pay cut. You don’t find yourself standing in line to buy that $5 extra foam part skim latte with splenda. Sunday Brunch at Norma’s? The days of reckless spending and going out have been replaced by staying in and seeing what’s on cable tv. People are looking for ways to spend less and earn more.

So how do you have guilt free spending in an economized world?

During these tough times, you can pretty much negotiate *anything*. Read the rest of this entry »
